CHAPTER – 7

As expected, Thara did not get a warm welcome at home. Initially they were surprised that she came alone. Thara did not keep them in suspense for long and revealed her decision to pursue Civil Service. What happened next was an explosion. Her father and brother were furious at her decision and were loud in voicing their displeasure. Her mother on the other hand chided her for leaving her kid and husband all alone to come and discuss this irrelevant issue. No matter how hard she tried to convince them they were not ready to understand her point of view. They were clear in pointing out that her priority should be her family and nothing else.

So Thara decided what she had to do. She left one more ‘home’. She pledged some of her jewels which she had taken with her to arrange for some much needed cash for future. She got herself accommodation at a working women’s hostel. Before leaving home she had sent the application for the Civil Service exam. After settling in hostel, the same day she enrolled herself at a famous training institute for preparation and focused on her goal, and only on her goal.

Her family and Maheshwar disowned her and writ off all her rights to their lives. It hurt her, but she didn’t let it weaken her resolve. One day, she will make all of them proud of her....and maybe that day she might return to their lives as well. Time will tell.......!!!!

                                              *****************

Though Thara didn’t have her family’s support, all her friends backed her decision. They were not completely supportive of what she had done; especially Anjali felt it as blasphemy to walk out on one’s own kid for ambition and career. But still all of them supported Thara unconditionally because they knew she badly needed it now and friends never work by the rulebook of society.

With this development, Aaradhya and Thara connected more closely. Though they were in two countries they were in constant touch. Aaradhya provided the necessary morale boost for Thara. Aaradhya was also a supporting hand in Azmia’s life. As soon as her visa got granted, Azmia migrated to Dubai and joined Aaradhya there.

Aaradhya got her enrolled at the top Law University there. And once her college hours get over, Azmia assisted Aaradhya’s legal team gaining some experience as well. Though Aaradhya offered her stay at her home, Azmia politely refused saying she wanted to be independent and this was the first step towards it. So Aaradhya arranged her stay with some of her employees ensuring that the rent is affordable for Azmia.

Dharam, Aaradhya’s husband a freelancing graphic designer, was a revelation for Azmia. He is a charming man, loving husband, doting father and an adorable son-in-law; in short the synonym for perfection – something that is too hard to find in real life. After meeting such a wonderful man, Azmia genuinely wondered what Aaradhya had done to get all the blessings in life, that too in so much abundance!

Aaradhya’s mother visits them time to time but cannot stay away from her homeland and relatives for long. So she divides her time equally between India and Dubai. She also helps her daughter to handle her father’s business. Aaradhya’s kids were the sweetest retreat that Azmia awaited in life. She bonded really well with them and soon found herself being more cheerful and flourishing back to life around them.

Her family tried to contact her once they came to know of the recent developments in her life, but she did not give in to their attempts to connect with her. Her mother was indeed sad, but also understood Azmia’s indifference. Her family never stood by her and now if she doesn’t want them, they were bound to accept her decision. Azmia slowly weaved her life around the opportunities that lay before her.

                                         **************

Few weeks went by and the eight of them were taking life as it comes. Thara was completely involved in her preparation. She had just two months more to face the preliminary exams. Her parents had come to meet her to cajole her back to old life using her child. Though her resolve weakened a bit seeing her son, she held her emotions in check. When her parents realised that her determination is not going wear off even for her son’s sake, they walked away from her life, forever. Soon she received divorce notice from Maheshwar. She signed the petition and agreed for a mutually amicable divorce with no alimony involved. The divorce proceedings are going on at the court.

Meanwhile Gauri was also sailing in the same boat. Court offered her and Madhav 6 months time to make the final decision. The counselling sessions were over and she did not know what to make of Madhav’s behaviour. At times he messaged her and even jointly worked together for matters related to their daughter; but then for a long time there wouldn’t be any contact. It seemed to her that he was still confused about the divorce.  But as time passed by, she felt her confusion slowly ebbing away.

Meanwhile Tejaswi got another punishment transfer for disrespecting her Senior and so shifted to Kottayam. That did not come as a shock to any of her friends. By now they were used to the number of transfers Tejaswi’s career beholds. But the change that happened in Joanna’s life in the same week did shock them. Gauri was the first one to know since Joanna was more close to her. She informed others and it was Esther who passed this news to Aaradhya.

“What, she said she is quitting her job? Or did she mean marriage?”
